PostHeaderIcon PLEASE HELP. Truths about hair growth? Stress? biotin?

Ok well basically my hair is alot thinner than it was few years back.ive noticed a year ago when i had my haircut i thought it was the haircut but then realized that it wasn’t. my blood is fine, thyroid fine, hormonal are fine and there is no history in my family of hair loss problems (apart from gran which is obviously only natural) . So the only thing i could think of is stress as i have been stressing quite alot in the past few years. ( im18, blonde hair). Please help !!! I have considered seeing a trichologst but i been told that they just rip money out of you and are not much of an experts. is this true? help please, cant stop stressing over this. i don’t want to loose anymore hair. i am currently taking biotin and some multivitamins.

Here a few simple home remedies which can be tried at home to control hair fall.

1.Rinse your hair with a mix of apple cider vinegar and sage tea this helps hair grow..

2. A medicine rich in sulfur is also recommended as sulfur plays an important part in the structure of the hair.

3. Massage with olive oil before going to bed at night and next morning, wash off the hair gently..

4. To treat hair loss apply a little lemon juice with some black tea.Massage well and shampoo.

5. Beat two eggs, and add two tablespoons of water to it. Rinse hair and pour the egg mixture over the hair.Massage the scalp well and leave for 10 minutes. Then wash it.

PostHeaderIcon My wife is having sudden hair loss, can someone help?

Within 2 weeks, my 40-year old wife has loss more than 30% of her hair, showing the scalp skin clearly. She is understandably depressed, especially when doctors could not find anything wrong. She was not under any medications at the time which may be the cause of side effect. We have 6 month old girl which is breast feeding which some hinted could be a reason. The hairloss is still going, but it seemed to be lesser. What is the treatment to promote hair regrowth? Thank you for the reply….

Many women notice increased shedding from about 3 to 6 months after delivery, which is simply a sign of the body adjusting as hormone levels return to normal. It may take a couple of hair growth cycles (up to several years) before your texture completely returns to normal, especially if you wear your hair long. Many people claim that the onion’s high sulphur concentration is an effective treatment for scalp problems and can even stimulate hair growth

PostHeaderIcon What was chemotherapy like the first time, ladies?

If anyone who has been through chemo, can tell me about their experience, I would love to hear. I am really interested in knowing how long it took for the first treatment. Then, I would also like to know about your hair loss. Was it all at once, the first week, later on?

Mine starts tomorrow and I am very nervous. Thanks for any input.

My first chemotherapy infusion took about 3 hours but it is different with everyone depending on what and how many drugs you are getting. With some drugs they may only administer a small amount the first time to make sure you don’t have any kind of a reaction, for this reason your first infusion may be shorter than the rest. My treatments usually take about 3 and 1/2 hours from start to finish.
The first couple of days after my treatment were uneventful but nothing (except maybe an avalanche or something) could have prepared me for the lovely side effects of chemotherapy.
The worst side effects were mouth sores, muscle pain, vommiting/nauseau and constipation. If you start getting mouth sores use baking soda and water to rinse out your mouth, your doctor can also prescribe a great mouthwash that numbs your mouth if it gets really bad. Make a list of the sympoms you have so you can tell your doctor and they can help fix the problem. Not everything can be fixed but there are a lot of sollutions to help.

To help chemo go by quicker I have a different person come with me to each treatment whether it’s a friend or a relative, they always have something new to talk about and it can sometimes (if possible) make me look forward to chemo because of who is be coming with me.

My hair started falling out 2 days after my second treatment, at your chemo center they will probably have free hats for you to take, people have made and donated these for cancer patients (it really helped me knowing that a complete stranger would make a hat for me so I would recommend taking one.) I had a friend cut my hair short and wore it that way for a few days, I did this because I’ve always had long hair and it will take a while to grow it out again. Then I shaved it off as it started falling out in clumps. Buy a wig now so they can match your style and color. Also buy some hair accessories like hairclips, headbands, and hairbows for your wig. This really helped me feel like I could still fix my hair and be a girl every morning. (Hair accessories are really in right now too!!) The National Cancer Society does really good classes called "Look Good, Feel Better" so look for one in your area, these are very helpful and you can meet other people going through the same thing you are.

Chemotherapy is HARD!! But there are bright sides, it’s really hard t see them at first so I listed out a few below.

1. You can blame anything on chemo, I got a parking ticket and when I informed my parents they blamed the chemotherapy. (This was before I even started chemo, so you can see the possibilities.)
2. You get to meet some amazing people like your nurses, and fellow patients going through chemo.
3. What are the chances you would ever get to see what a great shaped head you have without chemo?

Good Luck with everything, and please feel free to email me if you ever need to talk to someone about this whole ordeal.

PostHeaderIcon HOW AND WHY do hair follicles die and how can i stop/ prevent hair loss?

does biotin help prevent hair growth and stimulate hair follicles? i’m 22 and noticed that the top part of my hair is thinning. I had a baby almost two years ago and it hasn’t returned to the thickness pre pregnancy. I am aware that hair loss due to hormones after pregnancy is normal but i have also read that it is supposed to return to it’s normal growth by 6 months to a year. However nothing has really grown back. I haven’t really had much hair growth so i’m wondeing if biotin or Minoxidil would help. My mother is 50 and has very thin hair and balding at the front and top of her head.

they die becuase they get damged.

some factors that can cause damage are:
smoking or being in smokey areas
poor diet
poluted streets
putting on cenrtal heating
brushing hair too much
cheap shampoo and conditioner
heated applicainces like straigtnhers

alot of factors damge hair.

i know you said you have had a baby, but look at the list i wrote too , to see if any apply to you.

hair regrow porcuts dont really work sorry :(

just eat a diet rich in fruit and vegatbales mainly green leafy vegatbles like spinach, brocolli and cabbage etc

and have lots of protein like tuna, chicken, turkeyy and eggs, protein is AMZAING for your hair.

drink plenty of water too!

im not saying live a boring extra healthy life just make sure everyday you est some protein and veg and always have 2 litres of water a day!

PostHeaderIcon Help! Did you experience hair loss after quitting the pill, and how long did it take to grow back?

If you experienced this after quitting the birth control pill, did your hair grow back like normal and how long did it take? I’m worried…

I am currently going through this issue. I was on Micronor…i got off it in September and noticed a lot of my hair was gone in January. Like you, I was very worried. I am still waiting for my hair to grow back but the falling out has slowed down drastically. You’re definitely not alone in this. There are many women suffering from the same condition ((it’s called telogen effluvium)). I don’t know if you’ve done much research on it, but women suffering from it never lose all of their hair ((somewhere around 70%)), it’s hardly noticable to anyone but you ((NO ONE noticed mine was thin until i pointed it out)) and it WILL grow back once the problem is taken care of..depending on the person, it may be exactly as it was before. My suggestions:

1. Trying taking a high dose of biotin ((in the vitamin section almost anywhere…i’m taking 5,000 mcg)). My dermatologist told me it kick starts hair regrowth and makes it grow quicker.
2. Try not to stress over it too much. High emotional stress is also a cause of TE. ((i know it’s easier said than done))
3. Use condoms, birth control is the devil…lol

Good luck with everything and remember you’re not the only one going through this! =]

PostHeaderIcon Thyroid disorders and hair loss. What is common and does anything help?

I was diagnosed with Graves disease early this year and underwent the radiation treatment for the disease. Now that they are adjusting my medicine I am finding that my hair is falling out a lot. PostHeaderIcon Can chemotherapy have long term side effects?

I don’t mean the stuff like hair loss or sickness , I mean side effects that can last for months or even years, maybe for ever?
After effects.
Wow. All interesting answers so far. Not asking for myself, a relative starts chemotherapy soon. Thanks everyone.
btw I haven’t given anyone a thumbs down, I don’t know why someone would give any of these answers a thumbs down as all are helpful especially personal experiences.

Yes, it is possible to have long term side effects . . but the side effects are in exchange for your life. Side effects can be treated. Death is final.

Speaking as a parent who has lost a child . . I would give a thousand percent in order to have my son alive and living with side effects no matter what they are. I can not emphasize this enough . . life is worth fighting for, because when it is gone . . there are no ’second chances’.
