Look,im 13 years old. Curly hair. And i am having hair loss in the front and back of my head. it is so depressing i keep crying i cannot deal with it. my mother doesnt believe me , she just thinks my hair is thin. No one understands me. My mothers friend(old man) advised me to use lemon and water or something like that and it worked for him because he was loosing his hair and he used to wash his hair everyday. Look i am so sad about this and would like to solve it and get my hair back. My mother is going to take me to the doctors in a few days. i am scared and depressed i cannot take it. I don’t like it . My heads alwayz saw where the hairloss is taking place .is there anything i can do to it? Anything that can cure hair loss. Maybe the doctor will give me prescription to treatment. But is there anything else ? :(

try crushing some birth control pills into the shampoo that you use. It will make your hair thicker.

PostHeaderIcon Hairloss, Premature Balding, Receding Hairline…?

I’m only 21, yet my hairloss occurs at an alarming rate. Now, I have a noticable bald patch, and my hairline is extremely high. I definitely want to say I am used to it, but the truth of the matter is no matter what, I feel extremely self-conscious.

I have tried using hairloss shampoos and lotions before, but have now stopped since I find them to be ineffective. I am a medical student, so I have done enough researches to know all of the predispositions to hair loss- stress, unhealthy diet, etc… And I have tried my best to avoid them all, to no avail. Of course there’s another factor I can’t beat- Genetics. Since both my Grandfather and Father have baldness too.

I would like to know if there are anyone out there who had the same problem and are on treatment? And wether the treatments are effective or not?

There are no promises, and I don’t want you to get your hopes too up, but this worked for me, and very well too.

I was about 21 in college, and started losing it at the corner of my hairline. I grew my hair out a little longer, to cover up those little spots. But I was feeling dread of what was to come, my hairstyle looked sleazy and whack, and any girl I could get to talk too, I felt like I had to lock her down cause I only had a little bit of time left. My confidence was so low man. Sometimes I would wake up and feel like I was in a nightmare as soon as I woke up. I never even thought of looking in a mirror, and in my books that I’d study, hairs would fall out.

One night I went out to a club, and cause of the sweat, it made my hair kind of wiry and thin, and some girl that went out with us said "oh my God, you’re going bald", like I didn’t know.

I went to my mom depressed and told her. She called the family doctor I had since I was a little kid, and he said come in to see him, he had something.

I thought it couldn’t be. I had even looked into hair transplants and propecia. Hair transplants are expensive, don’t always work, and don’t stop the hair from falling back. Propecia seems to work for some people, but its expensive, takes a while to work, and can cause impotence.

Sooooo, my doctor told me to use minoxidil. This is Rogaine. I had looked at it in the store and the box said it was only for the crown of the head (the back). I told him this, and he said no, it just wasn’t tested there, so they can’t put it in the box.

So I start using it, and I see my fake hairline combover start to get thicker within a couple of weeks. I looked under and I saw little hairs start to grow back. Not all the way to the old hairline, but still moving forward.

So I used it every day and night, and started seeing more and more hair growin in, and feeling more and more confident and happy. Then about 6 months ago I came on here, and asked if there were hair thickening shampoos. Some girl told me Nioxin. I went online, bought the second treatment system, for thin hair, and this combo has worked amazing. My hairline looks pretty damn good. I get a fade haircut, with what is called a tape (lining up the hairline) and it looks great.

Then the final awesome thing was, Rogaine just came out with a foam version. It absorbs really quick, and seems to have made even more hair grow out.

Try out this combo man, I think its potent, and I hope it works for you. I know what you’re going through.

If it don’t work, don’t sweat it. As humans we adjust to anything, and are happy wherever we end up. With time we always get used to circumstances, no matter what.

And I personally know a couple of dudes that sport the bald cut (cause they have to, not cause they want to) who pimp way more girls than me.

Good luck man

PostHeaderIcon Can I get a doctor’s prescription online?

I want to get the new propecia drug for treatment of hairloss but I dont want to spend $55 for a doctor to spend 2 minutes writing out a prescription for me. Is it possible to get a prescription made out online and just print it out.

I know I can buy propecia online but I’d rather get it in a pharmacy

No you can’t. A doctor has to see you in person to avoid legal trouble. Also, buying medicine without a prescription, or from websites claiming they have doctors who can prescribe via the internet are SCARY. For one thing you could get in legal trouble yourself, and for another you never know what you are actually getting. Often times people online are selling fake or expired products. I would say it’s worth the $55 so you are safe and not in any trouble! Good luck!

PostHeaderIcon HELP! allergists please…how might allergy to gluten affect hairloss?

would an allergy to gluten cause hairloss? this has been ongoing for several years and is still, even after some hormonal and thyroid treatment by so-called specialists…so i’m now exploring other possible causes of hairloss. help please

Hair loss associated with gluten would not be an allergy. It would actually mean that you have celiac disease which is an autoimmune disorder where your body cannot process gluten properly. It means that when you consume foods with gluten in them your body reacts to it as foreign and tries to attack it, ultimately destroying your villi (nutrient absorbing projections in your small intestine). The reason why celiac disease might result in hair loss is because your body is not receiving all the nutrients from your food like it should. When I was in high school, this is what happened to me. I just recently finally got diagnosed with celiac disease. Do some research online – just type in celiac disease, if you feel like you might have some symptoms, go to your Doctor and get the blood tests. They will eventually have to do a biopsy from your small intestines to diagnose you for sure, but the blood tests show them signs of needing a biopsy. The only cure for celiac disease is a VERY strict diet of no gluten. Gluten is found in everything: bread, pasta, soy sauce, most packaged food, canned soup, beer, some liquor…it is not easy, but it will save your life refraining from it, if you have the disease. Also, if you think you have symptoms of this – DO NOT get off gluten yet. You will have to be consuming gluten for the tests to show up correctly.

Hope that helped.

PostHeaderIcon Canine Prednisone Causing Hairloss?

My 1 year old boxer has been diagnosed with Aseptic Menengitis and has been on Prednisone treatment for the last 2 months and will continue dosage for another 3 to 4 months. He’s been losing hair over the past month or so and has a few bald areas and a few thinning areas, is this a side effect of the prednisone? If so is there anyway to help with the amount of hair loss? Will his hair grow back once his treatment is done? Thanks in advance.

Yes, one of the side affects is poor coat. My beardie was on prednisone and it affected his coat drastically. Whether or not your dog’s coat will go back to normal depends a lot on how long he’s on the prednisone. Relatively short term his coat should come back. Also, your guy is only a year old, my dog was quite old when he was on it so his coat wasn’t what it was when he was younger.

PostHeaderIcon Has anyone heard of this natural treatment for hair loss?

I found this on another forum. Some guy, I guess with a credible reputation (not a troll), posted this on a hairloss thread:

"you need two things : olive oil + garlic.

Heat olive oil on low fire, cut half a garlic into really small pieces, fry it in the olive oil for just a few seconds. Cool it down, and use this oil once a week. It smells a little bit but trust me, after you have seen all the new hair thats popping out of your head, it’s so worth it.

So here’s how you use it. massage the oil in your head, put a hot wet towel around your head. Wait 1 hour. Repeat weakly, for 4 weaks and watch your hair jumping out of your skull.

Also what you can do is, put 20cc of "oleum terebentinae" into a 200 ml shampoo. You don’t need to change shampoo, just use the one you allways use. Wash your hair with this shampoo.. Some of my friends tried my tips and now they have excellent hair."

Would there be any risks trying this method? Of course, check for allergies. Will this method work?

No I have never heard of this. Interesting idea.

Nioxin really is the best. Do you have a Sally’s Beauty Salon where you live? They have a generic version of Nioxin that works too. I don’t remember the name but if you go in there, they will know what it is called.

PostHeaderIcon BALDNESS: So long as you do what your Dr. says will the hairloss stop for good?

BALDNESS: So long as you do what your Dr. says will the hairloss stop and you just keep the amount of hair you had when you started treatment (treatment being minoxidol and spironolactone)?

no cure for baldness.

Humans use minoxidil to stop ‘baldness’ because we really have no idea what it does. We do though know that a side effect of minoxidil is hair growth. So we counter our hair loss by taking advantage of this side effect.

So when you think about it, you really aren’t stopping baldness. Just getting temporary growth from the minoxidil. Once the drug stops working you’ll still be losing hair.
