Why would a doctor be dismissive…?
…when you report a named side-effect of a prescription medicine? Surely this data should be noted and doctor should give feedback on patient observations.
A close relative of mine was prescribed the anti-inflammatory prescription medicine ‘Voltarol’ (diclofenac sodium) and was convinced of suffering as a consequence one of the rarer named side-effects (1 in 100,000) of substantial hair-loss – whilst taking this drug. 75mg dosage for 4 years.
She stopped taking it and the problem seems to have abated.
The doctor was not interested in discussing it.
Doctors get "perks" from pharmaceutical companies. The more of the medication doctors prescribe, and the less reports of side-effects, the better the "perks."
Get a new doctor ! At the very least make sure the doctor adds it to her allergy list.

You can report side effects directly to the British pharmalogical Society. They are responsible for licencing drugs and are always interested in rare side effects.

It’s not OK when doctors do that. Your relative did what most people do when their doctors ignore them- she stopped taking the medication. Some options that doctors take in certain situations when presented with side effects include changing dose, switching medications, or giving another medication to reduce the side effect. Even if he didn’t think the two were related, that’s a pretty serious symptom! Checking it out might have been a good idea.

Some doctors just don’t care. They like their paychecks, and if they don’t think you’ll die on their watch, it’s not their problem. I was in a similar situation once, and it’s disheartening. Maybe she could contact the pharmaceutical company or a lawyer so at least someone might take her concerns seriously. Best wishes and good luck.

It’s not the named side effects they are interested in, it’s the unnamed side effects you need to report to the doctor or pharmacist.

I agree change doctors.I’ve an issue with a doctor with the surgery I was at she took me of my tablets thought my problems were in my head till my bloke came with me.I was passing out all over the place. The doctor didn’t even bother looking a my medical records.I then went to see another doctor who basically checked everything. So you have to options one speek to another doctor or two go ask the doctor in question ask why he or she is dismissive and what he or she can do about it!

The Doctor may well consider that the condition the person is taking the prescription medicine for,is more important than the hair loss that is occurring, and perhaps the hair will return back to normal once the person treated is off the medicine. Yes, it would be ever so nice if the Dr would explain that to the patient, or perhaps have one of his/her office assistants do it , or if there is a pamphlet on this condition have it handed out. But then we patients need to be informed, as well. I can see your point and the physician’s point as well. You may want to try talking to the Nurse and see if you can get some answers there. Will the patients hair return to the previous condition, or will this hair loss be permanent after the medicine is discontinued? If a Doctor looses a patient he looses a source of income, no one wants that, Peace be with you Best wishes.

conventional doctors have been poisoning the public for centuries with their medicines and making a tidy sum for the pleasure.why on earth would they want a guilty conscience for doing so.of course they will ignore you! they do not have any answers, they have been brain washed to use the medicines that are provided and brainwashed against any alternative,I have heard some horrendous things about herbs no doubt circulated by the multi-billion pharmaceutical companies who don’t want to loose a penny even at the expense of others. people have died or become retarded from pharmaceutical drugs. study and learn about herbal medicine and change your life forever.you need to make months of study but start with Back to Eden by DR. I had a rare reaction to some medication which was really nasty and my doctor filled in forms and I had to sign them, but I have had other medications that I have had named side effects to and this has just been classed as normal.
